With her beautiful smile, love and determination, Cheryl Ann Tyler, of Issaquah, passed on to her next adventure, Oct. 23, 2013, with her family by her side, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Cheryl Ann Tyler

Cheryl Ann Tyler

Cheryl was born to Gordnell and Bobbie Tyler in 1961, in Juneau, Alaska, where she grew up surrounded by Southeast Alaska’s natural and native wonders. She spent many of her younger years working alongside her sister and parents at their family market, learning the ropes and importance of business, family and community.

After high school, she married Ted Thorp, and in 1983, they welcomed daughter Tessa. Cheryl and Ted eventually went their separate ways but remained great friends and parents.

Cheryl moved to the Seattle area in 1986 and held a variety of accountant-related jobs before hiring on at The Boeing Co. in 1988, where she quickly moved up into project management positions. She spent 25 years at Boeing, working up until earlier this year. Her energy and passion, both in life and work, brought her well-deserved challenges, experiences, successes, travels, adventures and, most of all, time for her daughter, family, loves and friends from all walks of life.

In addition to receiving numerous recognitions and awards from Boeing over the years, Cheryl was a member of the Juneau Moose Lodge, the Issaquah Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Calico Cut Ups quilting group in Arizona, the PMS Flyers women’s group, part of the original Dog & Pony Pubwalkers, and a member of several wine tasting, quilting and music groups and organizations.

She loved fishing and folly, city lights and northern lights, black ties and tie dyes, Harleys and hammocks, sewing and sipping, music and mayhem.

Most of all, she loved her family — parents Bobbie and Gordnell Tyler of Arizona; daughter Tessa Brown (James) and granddaughters Taitam and Juno of California; sister Trina McMullin and nephews Shaun and Scott McMullin of Oregon; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends. She was preceeded in death by a cousin and an uncle, of Alaska.

A celebration of Cheryl’s life was held on Nov. 2. A family gathering is planned for next year in Alaska.
