Ivan Risdon Jr. passed away March 1, 2014. He was born to Ivan Sr. and Alice Risdon on July 30, 1920, the eldest of four children, including two sisters, Alice and Juanita, and younger brother Dan.

The family moved to Issaquah from Morgan Street in Seattle in 1936.

Ivan Risdon Jr.

Ivan Risdon Jr.

Ivan worked for his father helping install furnaces for the Risdon Coal Stoker Co., as well as working at the family’s greenhouse operation, a onetime fixture of old Issaquah along Highway 10.

During World War II, he joined his country’s armed forces, serving as a technician maintaining the nation’s war planes. During this time, he married his longtime sweetheart Gertrude Anderson, the love of his life and soulmate of 69 years of marriage.

After the war, he went to work for The Boeing Co. and moved to the permanent family home along Issaquah-Hobart Road. Here, he had his greatest challenges: running a family farm, working full time and raising four boys, Ron, Glenn, Gary and Mark.

Among his lifelong values were honesty and hard work. He will be remembered for these things by all those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by Gertrude and Gary.

Services will be March 15 at 1 p.m. at Floral Hills Cemetery.

Marjorie Grimm

Marjorie Lahar Grimm, most recently of Bellevue, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 3, 2014. She was 92 years old.

Marjorie was born on October 22, 1921, in Gravette, Ark., but grew up living with her mother and three sisters between Springfield, Mo., and Issaquah. She is the last of this clan of beautiful and strong women to pass, and we are sure that she is happy to be reunited with them now.

Marjorie Grimm

Marjorie Grimm

She graduated from the Washington School of Nursing in St. Louis in 1943 and married Ross M. Grimm, M.D. Together, they moved to Issaquah and raised their family. She was well-loved in the community and was thought of as mom, auntie, Granny and GG to a very extended group of family and friends.

Marge lived a life of service. She knew the deepest sorrow we can imagine when she lost her son Donald, but she had the heart and the courage to transform her grief into care for others who were suffering. She lived a faith based on showing up and being there in the most difficult of times.

After Donnie’s death in 1974, she worked as an R.N. at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, where her reputation cast a wide net. Cancer patients from all over the world would ask for her to do the difficult procedures because of her firm, gentle and humorous touch. When she retired, she was awarded the 1991 Lane Adams Quality of Life Award.

The people who will miss her and carry her in their hearts are too numerous to name, but she is survived by her children Ross Grimm Jr. and his wife Pattie, of Dana Point, Calif., Kate (Polly) Sinon and her husband Jim, of Bellevue, and Rebecca (Becky) Fritts and her husband Gerry, of Kalispell, Mont., where, prior to coming back to Bellevue, she lived for several years. She loved her life there with them and leaves many friends who will miss her.

Her grandchildren Melissa Carlsen, Elke Grimm, Jeremy Sinon, Michael Sinon and Ross Grimm III, and her great-grandchildren David Ross and Taylor Lipking, and Mason, Martin, Marcus, Tessa and Max Carlsen will also miss her. They all loved their Granny so much.

A memorial service will be held Aug. 30, and a posting will be placed in The Issaquah Press at that time.

We know she would appreciate it if your remembrances were given to acts of care to others in whatever form that takes. We would also like to extend our enduring thanks to Evergreen Hospice. Their help and support was a beautiful gift.

Sandy moved to High Point, Issaquah, in 1962 with her second husband, Robert Hanson. They raised three children there. She was also a member of High Point Mission Church.

In 1969, the family moved to Pine Lake. Sandy was involved with the PTA and enjoyed being a Bluebird leader. She fulfilled a longtime wish to own her own horse named Clem and enjoyed horseback riding — a highlight being a weeklong horseback riding/camping trip with girlfriends.

In 1976, Sandy moved to Carnation with her third husband, Ray Palmer. She added three stepchildren to her family, Debbie, Sue and Rip. She enjoyed living on a farm with a variety of animals and loved having more horses around her.

After Sandy’s children were grown, she worked for the Issaquah District Court and the city of Issaquah where she formed many close friendships. She loved fishing and looked forward to her annual summer trek to northern B.C. and Alaska to fish there. She went parasailing, loved collecting and polishing rocks, gold panning and her beautiful garden. She also loved the ocean and collecting seashells.

After retiring to Moses Lake, she began quilting with her daughter, Heidi. She made many beautiful pieces for family and friends. She volunteered, making quilts for children through the organization Linus.
