Gro Marie Foss passed away peacefully at Spiritwood at Pine Lake Adult Living Facility on April 27, 2014.
Marie, as she was known here in the United States, was born in Norway on Feb. 19, 1915, to Daniel and Ragnhild Frydenlund. She attended public schools in Norway and graduated with a degree in business from high school in Oslo.
She met and married Gunvald Foss. They had three children, Ingeleiv J. Stovner (Ronald), Asgjerd V. Jacobson and Richard B. Foss. The family lived in Gansdalen, Norway, until 1951, when they emigrated to the U.S. and settled in Washington state.
Marie held various jobs. She obtained her practical nurses license after attending school at Bellingham Technical College. She retired from North Bend Rehab Center in 1977. Marie belonged to the Gray Ladies branch of Red Cross for a time while the family lived in Bellingham. She taught first aid as one of her functions in Gray Ladies.
Her other interests included knitting. She made several Norwegian sweaters for her daughters and grandchildren. She also sewed and painted. Her biggest passion was gardening, as she loved being outdoors. The results of her work could be rather interesting at times.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Gunvald, brother Lars Kvollum and granddaughter Jill Foss.
She leaves her three children, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren to remember and cherish her.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Remembrances can be made to the humane society.
Friends are invited to view the full obituary and photos, get directions and share memories in the family’s online guestbook at www.flintofts.com.
